Capital Conversations: the new podcast launching a new dialogue on the “Alpha of Business”

The new podcast series that gives advisers an insight into how they can grow their practice by learning from some of the best sales and marketing professionals.

In the densely populated world of investment podcasts, Capital Conversations begins a new and insightful line of dialogue. One that doesn’t follow the typical route of investment trends and alpha strategies. Rather, as its host and highly respected investment consultant, Stephen Robertson said, Capital Conversations is “about the alpha of business.”

As a five-episode series initially, Capital Conversations sits down with leading minds across the wealth management industry, particularly those who have carved a strong reputation for themselves through their significant sales and marketing careers.

From waiting around in client lobbies to cold-calling billionaire investors from a phone booth, Capital Conversations delves into the nitty-gritty tactics of successful wealth management businesses.

Episode one: Adrian Whittingham’s journey

The first episode of Capital Conversations explores the untraditional career path of Scarcity Partners’ founder and managing director, Adrian Whittingham. Intimately involved in the establishment and growth of Pinnacle Investment Management Group, Whittingham shares his unique financial services journey and unpacks the importance of persistence.

Followed by in-depth discussions with founders, global heads of distribution, and business development directors, each guest of Capital Conversations has one thing in common: the ability to look back and reflect on how they built successful funds management sales and marketing teams.

As Robertson says, “our goal is sharing insights, learnings, strategies, tools and ideas that will help people be better at Capital Conversations.”

Finance podcasts on the rise

With Australian financial podcast audiences growing by 2.4 per cent to 1 million people in 2025, Capital Conversations answers the growing digital demands of financial professionals, who are increasingly moving towards new and on-demand media channels to gain financial literacy at all levels.

According to recent data from Investment Trends, YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok and online blogs are all growing sources of information for financial professionals.

Capital Conversations producer and PR account director, Simrita Virk, attributes the growing popularity of finance podcasts, such as Fear & Greed, Australian Finance Podcast and Equity Mates to the medium’s ability to clarify dense information through informal, relatable and natural voices.

“Podcasting is a very efficient medium to communicate the complexities of the system that we live in and we are 100 per cent supportive of a platform that brings the human element to our increasingly data driven industry,” she says.

Breaking down barriers

Diminishing the professional knowledge gaps such complexities cause, Virk views Capital Conversations as a podcast that ultimately “breaks down industry barriers,” helping anyone and everyone in the funds management industry to understand the strategic side of their businesses growth operations.

“The lessons apply to anyone who is in the business of growing a business. The skills and techniques apply to everyone. What differentiates Capital Conversations guest speakers is that their roles are 100 per cent focused on growth, new business and sales. Although others in business may not have a role with strong focus on these skills, these insights and lesson are relevant to all in business,” Robertson adds.

As a five-part series, Capital Conversations is now available on the Capital Outcomes website, Spotify and Apple Podcasts platforms. Releasing fortnightly, the second episode will feature Magellan’s head of Distribution & Marketing, Mark Burgess, with leaders from Franklin Templeton, Spire Capital and Shed Enterprises to follow.
